I had a meeting with B's school principal this past Monday. This is for the early entrance into kindergarten. The meeting was very depressing. I felt like the principal was trying to tell me that B didn't have a shot, in getting in early. She told me the test was in 3 parts. The first part lasts 40 minutes and tests her ability to learn. IF she passes, she will be able to continue on to the second part, which takes 2 days. The first part of the second test lasts 95 minutes and the second part lasts 65 minutes. This part will test her academically. She told me of all the children that were tested last year, only 3 passed. This sent me out of there wondering if we should even try. I came home, searching the internet for answers... or rather, practice tests. I really couldn't find anything, so I grabbed B's kindergarten workbook (I picked this up from Target) and we sat down...
After working with her for a few moments, I don't think she will have a problem.
And then, on the way home from one of our errands this week, I run over a dead animal in the road. It made a loud "ka-bump" sound and I said, "oooh, that didn't sound good". B then pipes up from the back seat, "What did you hit mom?" How in the world did she know I hit something? Why didn't she just ask, "what was that noise mom?" I decided at that moment that Craig and I were going to have to start watching what she is exposed to. I didn't want to just blurt out, "I hit a dead animal." Because I knew that would just raise a bunch of questions, so instead I just said, "Don't worry about it B." Which just raised the question "what mom, what?" for about 5 minutes with me repeating, "don't worry about it."
And then, yesterday I felt like a human dictionary. I made a few comments to her throughout the day including these words: complicated, fault, and communicating (I know there were more but I can't remember off the top of my head.) She had to ask "What does _____ mean?" Try explaining to a 4 year old what fault means, or communicating.
And then, this morning my house phone rings (which isn't very often), and when it does ring it's usually just someone trying to sell something. She hollers from the living room "It's someone trying to sell you something." I must have said that once before.
She is too much. She HAS to get into kindergarten. She just HAS to. Or, I am going to go NUTS.
